Centre attack too much for Berry in SAA showdown

Box Score

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Six players reached double figures as Centre men's basketball rolled over Berry, 84-61, Friday evening inside the Cage Center.

The Colonels drained 12 3-pointers as a team and shot 53 percent overall, winning their fourth game in a row to improve to 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA).

Berry remained winless in-conference, falling to 5-10 (0-4 SAA).

Sophomore Art Walker (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) had a game-high 15 points, but a host of Colonels contributed to the lopsided victory. Bowling Green, Ky., natives Tucker Sine (14 points), Perry Ayers (13) and Dawson Crump (13) each tallied double digits – the latter recording a career high.

Sophomore Bailey Rakes (Mt. Washington, Ky.) and junior Jarod Griffin (Lexington, Ky.) had 11 and 10, respectively.

The Colonels wasted little time warming up from long range, hitting four consecutive 3-pointers to grab a 21-10 lead and force a Berry timeout midway through the first half.

Out of the break, Centre hit two more threes – getting 18 straight points from beyond the perimeter – and before long held a 31-14 advantage by the under-8 media timeout.

Centre led 47-26 at the half, bolstered by a 9-for-16 effort from deep.

Although the second period proved much more even, the outcome was never truly in question as the Colonels continued to score at a high clip. Rakes had nine of his 11 to lead Centre's second-half effort.

Centre eclipsed the 80-point plateau for the seventh time this season, and shot above 50 percent for the fourth time in the last six games. The Colonels' 12 triples came on 26 attempts, good for their second-best effort in both makes and percentage.

The Colonels assisted on 18 of 31 field goals, as sophomore Jacob Bates (LaGrange, Ky.) paced the team with six helpers. Ayers followed with five.

Centre continues its road swing Sunday, facing Oglethorpe in Atlanta at 3 p.m. ET.
