Centre women drop SAA match against BSC, 5-3

DANVILLE, Ky. –Centre women's tennis faced another tough Southern Athletic Association opponent Saturday morning, falling 5-3 against visiting Birmingham Southern on the Colonels' outdoor courts.

It also marked the second regionally-ranked meeting for the Colonels in as many days.

The Colonels (6-10, 0-3 SAA) claimed two of three doubles matches against the Panthers (9-5, 1-2), beginning at No. 3 where Kenny Snow (Elizabethtown, Ky.) and Zena Maddux (Hopkinsville, Ky.) cruised past Alana Owens and Lexie Dillard, 8-2.

At No. 2 doubles, Emily Zelichenok (Louisville, Ky.) and Caroline Stallings (Clarksville, Md.) handed Virginia Hammond and Alyssa Yager an 8-5 defeat.

Leading 2-1, the Colonels ultimately fell when the event shifted to singles action.

Kent fell in a couple of close sets to regionally-ranked Carlee Petro, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, while the rest of the BSC points came in equally-narrow decisions.

Centre's lone singles win came at No. 3, where Stallings continued a strong rookie campaign with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 comeback victory over Yager.

The Colonels aim to snap their current three-match skid next weekend, traveling to face Rhodes April 7 at 9 a.m. ET.
