Maini picks up two wins in Centre's 6-3 loss at Oglethorpe

ATLANTA – Centre men's tennis suffered a 6-3 defeat at Oglethorpe Saturday in its penultimate match of the regular season. 

The Colonels fall to 5-12 overall and 1-5 in the Southern Athletic Association, while the Stormy Petrels – ranked 13th in the Atlantic South Region – improve to 12-6 (3-3 SAA). 

Centre claimed one doubles match, as Arpit Maini (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Adam Slone (Lexington, Ky.) bested Judd Motz and Dustin Bowie at No. 1, 8-4. 

Trailing 2-1 after doubles action, the Colonels picked up two singles victories.

The rookie Maini toughed out a three-set win against the senior Motz at No. 1 singles, winning the tiebreak set by a narrow 14-12 score.

Max Middleton (Atlanta) earned a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 win against Bowie at No. 2 singles for Centre's third and final point. 

Centre completes its regular season Sunday at Berry at 10 a.m.
