Men's tennis competes at ITA Regional

ROME, Ga. – The Centre men's tennis team competed for the first time this fall at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Regional in Georgia.
 
A handful of newcomers and veterans played across various singles and doubles brackets. 
Beginning in singles Flight A, Arpit Maini faced Sewanee's top individual Jack Gray, falling in two sets. He rebounded with a consolation win against Oglethorpe's Rhys Richardson, 6-3, 7-5, and then swept past Birmingham Southern's Anthony Pellegrini, 6-0, 6-0. 
 
Matthew Ko opened with a 6-4, 6-0 victory against Belhaven's Yves Ikuno in singles Flight A, before falling to the eventual bracket champion, Emory's Jonathan Jemison.
 
Rookie Matthew Bulow and junior Adam Slone each competed in Flight A, as well, but dropped their opening two matches.
 
Freshman Danny Nelson began strong with a pair of Flight B victories, first against Guilford's Kai Glass, 6-1, 6-1. He then defeated Piedmont's Roman Webb, 6-1, 6-4.
 
Elsewhere in Flight B, Ben Hadlock fell in his opener to LaGrange's Will Thompson. He bounced back with multiple win in the consolation draw, defeating Covenant's Chris Morton, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0(3), and Piedmont's Chase Morris, 6-2, 6-2.
 
In singles Flight C, Josh Joiner opened with a 6-0, 6-0 rout against Piedmont's Brandon Greggory, before falling in round two. 
 
Also in Flight C, Quinn Pritchett defeated Huntingdon's Carson Sands, 6-1, 6-2, but dropped his round two match.
 
In doubles, Ko and Bulow defeated Millsaps' Josh Shearin ad Jacob Niehaus, 8-3, but dropped their round two match.
 
Also in Flight A, Centre's Maini and Nelson paired up, falling to Rhodes' Philippe Lauture and Ritwik Chatterjee, 8-6.
 
In Flight B doubles, Joiner and Slone fell in their opening match against Piedmont's Anthony Russo and Jarrett Gray, 8-6. They rallied to defeat BSC's Hunter Hoffmeister and Ethan Gibson, 9-8(5) in the consolation draw.
 
Pritchett and Hadlock won their first match in Flight C, 8-3 over Huntingdon's Clint Robinson and Anjala Chandrasoma.
