MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Centre men's track and field team began the outdoor portion of their schedule with an unusual meet at Berry. At the Victor Icebreaker Duals, teams across all divisions competed in the field, but they were broken up into pairs for dual meets and scores were kept as such. The Colonels were paired with the host Berry Vikings and won by a score of 79-69.
The first big point event for the Centre men was the 110m hurdles. The Colonels had three of the top seven times in the event, led by Thomas Burkey, who finished fourth in 16.26. Freshman Mykal Bright and sophomore Jake Pfaller also had top seven times for the Colonels. In the 400m hurdles, Pfaller posted a time of 59.32 to finish sixth overall.
In the men's 4x100m relay, Pfaller teamed with senior DeMontre Lewis, sophomore Thomas Jordan and freshman Tanner May to finish sixth with a time of 44.77.
The jumping events were also very good to the Colonels. Burkey and Lewis both cleared 5-09 in the high jump, with Burkey finishing fourth and Lewis fifth. In the long jump, Bright finished second overall with a mark of 21-9, while freshman Drake Nunnery finished eighth at 20-6. The Colonels had two more scoring marks in the triple jump as Pfaller posted a mark of 41-0, while freshman Aaron Bastian cleared 40-2.
The Colonels had perhaps their strongest day in the throwing events. Centre had four of the top eight marks in the discus, led by senior Bryce Whitman, who won the event with a mark of 126-1. Braden Tabor, Carter Broome and Jesse Vaughn also posted top-eight finishes in the event. In the shot put, sophomore Allen Richardson kept the momentum going from his indoor season, finishing second overall with a mark of 47-9, while Whitman and Tabor also finished in the top eight. In the hammer, the best throw came from senior Hunter Gann, who finished fourth overall with a mark of 139-3, with Whitman and Vaughn in the top eight as well. Finally, Broome rounded out Centre's throwing scores with a seventh place finish in the Javelin, posting a mark of 138-8.
