Centre's comeback falls short in series finale against Sewanee

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre baseball fell 6-5 in the series finale against Sewanee Sunday at Gary Wright Field, despite nearly erasing a six-run deficit.

The Colonels dip to 13-8 overall and 3-5 in the Southern Athletic Association, while the visiting Tigers improve to 16-9 (3-6 SAA).

HIGHLIGHTS
Sewanee starter Trey Holland stole the early headlines in Sunday's game, carrying a no-hitter and eight strikeouts through six innings.

The Tigers, meanwhile, built a 6-0 lead during that stretch. They scored twice against Centre's Nick Hoffman, who finished with five innings of work and five strikeouts.

Reliever Will Orren came in for the Colonels in the sixth, but was tagged for three runs on five hits.

Will Kirk finally broke Holland's spotless game in the seventh, leading off with a double down the left field line. Drew Schacht followed with a single, and Kirk then scored Centre's first run on a balk.

Seth Hagan kept the ball rolling with a two-RBI single, bringing in Schacht and Mason Falbo. Chris Esselman drove in Jake Holloway to bring Centre back within 6-4.

Centre's comeback bid continued into its final at-bat, as Cameron Duggins brought in Holloway to trim the deficit to 6-5. The tying run made it to third base, but Sewanee's Shane Smith was able to save the decision.
