Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. – Centre women's tennis excelled in doubles action but fell by a 6-3 score to No. 14 Sewanee Saturday evening, opening Southern Athletic Association play.
The Colonels move to 1-4 overall (0-1 SAA) while the host Tigers advance to 5-4 (1-0).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre claimed two of three doubles matches to put the Tigers on upset alert. The No. 1 tandem of
Neha Rao and
Hannah Doherty defeated Sewanee's Ellie Czura and Catherine Owen, 8-6.
- The Tigers took No. 2 doubles, but Centre's all-freshman duo of
Grace Headley and
Katharine Sherman won by an 8-6 score over Kaylin Thompson and Caroline Adams in No. 3 doubles.
- Sewanee claimed the first two completed singles matches at No. 1 and No. 3, but Rao defeated Czura in a tough 7-6, 6-4 final at No. 2 to level the overall score at 3-3.
- MJ McCaghren defeated Doherty at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1, putting Sewanee on the brink of victory.
- The Tigers would clinch the match at No. 5 singles, where Haley Tucker defeated
Emily Zelichenok 6-4, 6-3 in a come-from-behind victory.

Centre's match at Hanover Sunday has been cancelled. The Colonels will face Methodist University March 16 at 11 a.m.
