DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre baseball closed out the regular season Monday evening with a 4-1 victory against visiting Thomas More at Gary Wright Field.
During the victory, senior
Drew Schacht became the program's all-time leader in both career hits (209) and stolen bases (75). He also matched his own single-season record with his seventh save.
Centre improves to 24-14 overall while dropping Thomas More to 12-16.
HIGHLIGHTS
The Saints got to starter
Carson Werrmann for a run in the opening inning, but the right-handed rookie would settle in and cruise through the next three frames without allowing a hit.
In the bottom of the second, Pat Hope launched a no-doubter over the wall in right to level the score at 1-1. Hope nearly doubled his homerun count in fourth, sending a long foul ball just outside the foul pole in right field.
Centre would add a run on a two-out rally in the fifth.
Will Kirk led it off with a single to left, and was followed by Schacht's record-breaking bunt single.
Jake Holloway's deep double to left field brought home Kirk's go-ahead run.
Jordan Gunter added insurance in the eighth, launching a two-run homerun deep over the right field fence. It marks his seventh homer of the year, tied for most in the conference.
The Centre pitching staff was stellar in closing out the win.

Will Orren, Holloway and Schacht each threw one inning, combining to not allow a single baserunner.
Schacht struck out the side in the ninth for his seventh save of the season.
