Women’s tennis completes ITA Regional Championships in Tennessee

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Centre women's tennis competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional this past weekend, hosted by the University of the South.
 
SINGLES HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre was represented in the Main singles draw by Katharine Sherman (who was seeded seventh), Maddy Trinh, Caroline Lancaster, Ella Rueff, Hannah Doherty and Lainey Hill.
- Sherman opened the event with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lea Letourneau of Rhodes before falling in the second round.
- Rueff likewise began with a win, defeating Sydni Lewis of Methodist, 6-2, 6-3, in the opening round. Doherty won in straight sets against Oglethorpe's Izzy Forster, 6-2, 6-1. Each dropped matches in the second round to seeded opponents.
- Although she lost her opening match, Trinh bounced back to make a deep run in the consolation bracket. She won 6-2, 6-3 over Millsaps' Kiana Everhart and 6-4, 6-4 against Piedmont's Alyssa McFpadden, and ended the weekend with a hard-fought 6-4, 0-6, 10-8 victory against Esme Benjamin of Rhodes.
- Hill also came away with multiple wins in the consolation draw, beginning with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Belhaven's Ally Massy. She then defeated Rhodes' Emily Holderness, 6-2, 6-3.
- Lancaster won a match in the consolation draw, as well, dropping Mary Dabadie of Millsaps, 6-1, 6-0.
- Mamie Sevier and Abby Jamison competed in the "B" singles bracket. Jamison fell in her opening match, but won three straight to claim her consolation draw. She swept past Piedmont's Anna Lassiter, 6-0, 6-0, and Belhaven's Tyler Wiggins, 6-1, 6-0, before finishing with a 6-0, 6-4 triumph against Piedmont's Kaitlyn House.
- Sevier claimed one consolation victory in a 6-0, 6-0 rout against Belhaven's Asia Robinson.
 
DOUBLES HIGHLIGHTS
Main doubles draw
- Sherman and Doherty entered the weekend seeded fifth in the Main doubles draw. After a first round defeat, they rallied to claim their consolation bracket, beginning with an 8-2 win against Kiana Everhart and Camille Fremeaux of Millsaps. They followed with an 8-4 victory over Lemaster and Pol of Rhodes and an 8-6 triumph against Oglethorpe's Izzy Forster and Alyssa Merletti.
- Rueff and Hill paired up for an 8-6 win against Forster and Merletti in the Main doubles first round.
- In the "B" Doubles bracket, Sevier and Jamison brought home an 8-3 win against Piedmont's Perry and Mia Vasher.
