DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre swim teams returned to Boles Natatorium after a step up in division competition last week and bounced back with a big sweep over the Wittenberg Tigers. The women's team won 158-59, while the men's team won 155-46.
On the women's side, the Colonels picked up their first win of the day in the 200 medley relay, as
Maddie Hall and
Claire Pellegrin teamed with rookies
Sarah Albrecht and
Callie West to pull off a narrow victory over their teammates with a time of 1:57.48. It was the first of two wins on the day for West, who also finished first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.25, breaking the Boles Natatorium record previously held by All-American and former assistant coach Colleen Maggard.
Senior
Savannah Gupton took first place in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:00.74. She also was the high scorer for the Centre women in both diving competitions.
In the 200 freestyle, rookie
Ashleigh Flaherty finished first with a time of 2:10 even.
Sophomore
Kelsey Jenks was a multiple event winner as she finished first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.47, as well as the 100 fly with a mark of 1:03.06.
Reigning All-SAA first teamer
Audrey Becker earned a victory in one of her signature events, the 400 individual medley, finishing with a time of 4:50.54 for the only time in the race under five minutes.
The final individual event winner for the Centre women was Payton Patel, who won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.61.
In the last relay of the day, Becker and Jenks teamed with
Hannah Robinson and
Greer Manger to win the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:46.53.
On the men's side, the Colonels got their first win of the day in diving, where
Sam Feingold won with 118.35 points on the 1m board.
The 200 medley relay saw the team of
Sean Gilpatrick,
Kai Oddo,
Bryan Killian and
Jackson Fears win with a time of 1:45.39. Centre's young relay swimmers also saw success in individual events, as Oddo won the 200 freestyle in 1:52.74 and the 100 freestyle in 48.82, while Fears won the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.88.
In the 50 freestyle, freshman
Zolon Knoll won with a time of 23.66. The 100 fly saw freshman
Jacob Sanders win with a time of 57.84.
Junior
Henry Lang won two events in a row as he took the 100 backstroke in 59.20 – the only sub-minute time in the race – then pulled off a close win in the 500 freestyle in 5:00.43.
Finally, in the 200 freestyle relay, Fears and Knoll teamed with
Nate Matthews and
Austen Reid to win in 1:34.63.
