ATLANTA - Centre's
Lisa Owens was named the Southern Athletic Association Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year on Monday, as voted by the league's coaches. It marked her fifth SAA women's coach of the year honor and her eighth total SAA Coach of the Year accolade.
Owens led her Colonels to their fifth consecutive SAA title Oct. 30 at Sewanee, coaching her team to an impressive 32-point performance with all five of her scoring runners finishing in the top 12 individually. Centre's top five averaged 24:26 on the 6-kilometer course.
Six Centre runners earned All-SAA honors, with
Meghan Owens and
Catherine Hallman grabbing first-team accolades,
Erin Haugh earning a spot on the second team and
Nora Bailey,
Riley Fowler and
Maddie Riley each garnering honorable mention.
Meghan Owens was named SAA Women's Runner of the Year for her efforts, while Haugh took SAA Newcomer of the Year honors.
Centre cross country will compete at the Great Lakes Regional meet in Shelbyville, Ind. on Saturday.
