DAY 3
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The final round of competition at the Southern Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships is complete, and after 40 events, the Centre swim teams finished in third place. The women's team finished with 674 total points, while the men's team finished with 671 points.
Monday's slate began with the 3m diving competition and the Colonels got a big score on the men's side.
Kaden Gervacio, who finished third on the 1m board, took second place with 287.7 points.
Luke Duncan and
JP Schill also landed in the top five to give the Centre men 46 of the 72 points awarded in the event.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, Centre had a pair of eighth place finishes as
Savannah Gupton posted a time of 11:12.11 and
Sam Biggerstaff finished in 10:29.02. Both swimmers shaved huge numbers off their seed time, especially Biggerstaff, who improved by over a full minute.
Junior
Max Shoyat finished fourth overall in the 100-yard backstroke, knocking over a second off his seed time with a finals time of 1:52.23.
The 100-yard freestyle was an outstanding event for the Centre women. Rookie
Greer Manger finished second overall with a time of 53.29, while
Elise Burch just missed out on the podium with a time of 53.71, good for fourth place.
On the men's side, the Colonels had an excellent 200-yard breaststroke with two of the three podium finishes.
Bryan Killian set a new school record with a NCAA B Cut time of 2:03.61, as only the championship record time topped Killian's time. He was followed by classmate
Sean Gilpatrick, who finished third overall with a time of 2:10.15.
After winning the 200 IM on Saturday,
Audrey Becker won the 200 fly on Monday with a time of 2:07.41. On the men's side,
Jimmy Kelley and
Austen Reid each landed in the top eight overall.
Finally, in the 400 freestyle relay, the Centre women cut 15 seconds off their seed time as
Elise Burch,
Greer Manger,
Peyton Patel and
Sarah Phillips finished second with a time of 3:33.74. The men's relay squad of
Garrison Herfel,
Henry Lang,
Luke Martin and
Kai Oddo finished fourth overall with a time of 3:09.45.
DAY 2
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Sunday slate at the SAA Swimming and Diving Championships has wrapped up, and past the halfway point of the meet, both Centre swim teams are in third place.
The first points of the day came in the men's 1m diving competition, and just like in Saturday's women's diving competition, the Colonels came away with the most points.
Kaden Gervacio,
Luke Duncan and
JP Schill all finished in the top six overall to give the Centre men 43 big points for the meet, led by Gervacio, who finished third for the second year in a row with a score of 310.35 points.
In the 400 individual medley,
Audrey Becker cut nearly six full seconds off her seed time and finished in second place with a time of 4:32.85.
Sean Gilpatrick was the top finisher on the men's side, taking fourth place with a time of 4:10.84.
The 100-yard fly saw three Centre men's swimmers finish in the top eight, led by
Garrison Herfel at 51.97 and followed immediately by
Jimmy Kelley and
Austen Reid.
Connor Foster finished in sixth place to top the Centre women in the event.
In the 200 freestyle,
Henry Lang finished in sixth place with a time of 1:44.35.
The 100-yard breaststroke was a good event for the Colonels on the men's side.
Bryan Killian garnered All-SAA honors with a time of 57.60 to finish in third place overall, with
Alex Jacobs and
Zee Oddo also finishing in the top eight.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Foster earned individual All-SAA honors, placing third with a time of 1:00.11. The Centre men had two in the top eight in the event, with
Max Shoyat finishing fourth in 51.82, followed by
Kai Oddo in sixth.
The women's 800 freestyle relay was a fantastic race for the Colonels as
Audrey Becker,
Elise Burch,
Greer Manger and
Sarah Phillips cut 30 full seconds off their seed time to take second place with a time of 7:50.90.
DAY 1
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The first day of competition is in the books at the Southern Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships and the Centre swim teams find themselves in good shape after the first group of events, with the women's team in second place and the men's team in third.
With the Saturday competition consisting primarily of preliminary races, there were not very many opportunities for scoring. The women's team ended Saturday with 240 points, 60 points back of first place Birmingham-Southern. On the men's side, the Colonels finished with 177 points, 52 points back of second place BSC and 58 back of Berry.
In the 500 freestyle, sophomore
Henry Lang knocked four seconds off his seed time to take seventh place overall with a time of 4:46.17.
The women's 200 individual medley saw
Audrey Becker take first place with a time of 2:07.68, four seconds faster than her seed time.
Sarah Phillips just missed out on the podium with a time of 2:14.17. On the men's side in the same event, the Colonels had three swimmers in the top eight to rack up 39 points, led by
Max Shoyat, who finished fourth in 1:54.97, with
Sean Gilpatrick and
Bryan Killian also landing inside the top eight.
In the 50-yard freestyle, the Colonels had three of the top eight swimmers on the women's side, led by
Elise Burch, who finished third overall with a time of 24.49.
Peyton Patel and
Greer Manger also cracked the top eight for the Centre women. The Centre men were led in the 50 freestyle by
Garrison Herfel, who finished fifth with a time of 21.54, with senior
Luke Martin also cracking the top eight.
The Centre women earned All-SAA Honorable Mention for their performance in the 400-yard medley relay as Becker and Manger teamed with
Grace Crawford and
Connor Foster to finish third with a time of 4:01.72. The men's team of Shoyat, Killian, Herfel and
Jimmy Kelley finished fourth in 3:27.20.
Saturday also featured the women's 1m diving competition, and the Colonels earned the most points for the competition as
Savannah Gupton,
Amanda Flatt,
Katie Hollingsworth and
Elsi Mead all entered the scoring column to give Centre 47 huge points.
ALL-SAA
All-SAA honors are given to those student-athletes who finish in the top three in their respective events. A running tally of Centre's All-SAAÂ performers and their events based on their highest finishes will kept here during the conference championships.
