MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - It was a record-setting day for the Centre men's track and field team as they cruised to a victory in their outdoor opener at the Victor Icebreaker Duals. The Colonels won the meet with 173 points.
Centre defeated Division II Shorter by 30 points. Berry finished third with 133 points, followed by Oglethorpe and Covenant.
Individually,
JP Vaught made history in the sprints. In the 200m, Vaught posted a time of 21.25 to finish in first place and establish a new school record, as well as the fastest time in Division III. Vaught broke the 200m record of 21.67 that had been held by Chris Bastien since 1980, making it one of the oldest records in program history that went down today. Vaught also took first place in the 100m with a time of 10.74.
Gray Rahbany finished fourth in the 200 and seventh in the 100, while
Jeremy Olliges finished eighth in the 200 to give Centre a combined 28 points across both races. In the 400m, Olliges finished second with a time of 51.73, 0.3 seconds shy of first place.
In the distance events, Centre did not bring a full distance roster to this meet after their cross country conference championship meet last week, but they had two scoring performances in the 5k as
Andrew Edwards finished fourth and
Spencer Harvey finished eighth.
The 110m hurdles saw three scoring performances for the Colonels as
Thomas Jordan finished fourth in 16.44, followed immediately by
Pete Shipley and
Mykal Bright. In the 4x100m relay,
Tanner May teamed with Rahbany, Jordan and Vaught to finish second overall with a time of 42.72.
In the high jump, Bright finished second with a mark of 5-7.25, followed by
Drake Nunnery in third at 5-3.25. Jordan led four Centre scorers in the long jump with a mark of 20-3.75, with
Aaron Bastian, May and Nunnery joining him in the scoring column. Bastian also finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 42-0.75, with
Grant Griffith finishing right behind him at 37-6.75.
Allen Richardson set a new personal best in the shot put, winning the event with a mark of 47-2.5. He also finished second in the hammer and fourth in the discus.
Braden Tabor placed second in both the shot put and discus and fourth in the javelin.
Will Perkins finished third in the discus and hammer and seventh in the shot put. The three Centre throwers finished with a combined 58 points across their four events.
