Women’s golf individuals open spring season in Georgia

POOLER, Ga. – A pair of Centre women's golf individuals traveled to begin the 2021 campaign Monday and Tuesday at the Savannah Invitational, being played at the Savannah Quarters Country Club.

Abby Ligons finished 13th in the 41-player field after shooting a 165 (83-82). She shaved a stroke off of Monday's opening round during Tuesday's second time through the course, carding a birdie and seven pars. 

Margaret Butts finished 17th in her collegiate debut, totaling a 167 (81-86). Tuesday's second round featured seven pars.

Methodist's Jillian Drinkard claimed the first-place finish with a 149, five over par.

MONDAY RECAP
Hitting the course for her first official collegiate competition, Margaret Butts shook off a slow start to finish the opening round inside the top 10. The Paducah, Ky., native shot a 9-over 81 that featured a pair of birdies to sit in a tie for ninth among the 41-player field. Her best stretch came on holes 2-6, when she recorded four pars and a birdie.
 
Also competing in the Invitational is sophomore Abby Ligons, who likewise settled in after the opening hole to finish with an 11-over 83, putting her in a tie for 17th. She played the front nine three over, including a birdie on the par-3 sixth.
 
Christopher Newport's Erica Whitehouse leads the field after shooting 74 – two over par.
