Centre men win second straight meet at Centre Twilight

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre men's track & field team, ranked no. 13 in the latest USTFCCCA poll, won its second straight home meet on Friday night. Competing against a dozen teams from all divisions and NAIA, the Colonels won in a dominant performance.
 
The Colonels finished with 211 points for the event. Lindsey Wilson finished second with 160 points and no other team in the field scored more than 100.
 
The 100m saw the Colonels take half the spots in the scoring column. JP Vaught won the race with a time of 10.85, while Gray Rahbany, Tanner May and Drake Nunnery all posted personal best times to finish in third, fourth, and eighth, respectively. Vaught got his second win of the night in the 200 with a time of 21.62. May finished fourth with a time of 22.65, followed immediately by Rahbany with a personal best time of 22.66. The 400m played out in a similar fashion as Vaught won with a time of 48.75, followed by Rahbany in third, May in fourth and Jeremy Olliges in sixth, with Rahbany and May once again turning in personal bests.
 
Along with the individual sprinting success, the men's 4x100 relay team of May, Rahbany, Vaught and Thomas Jordan – the reigning winners of the SAA Men's Runner of the Week award – had another first place relay with a time of 42.05, just 0.02 seconds shy of the school record time they set last week
 
In the distance events, David McGrade won the 5k with a personal best time of 15:44.20. Andrew Edwards finished fourth in the 5k with a time of 16:02.95, while Will Lovell finished seventh in the 1500 with a time of 4:20.30. The 3000m steeplechase featured a pair of personal best times as Ben Camuel finished fourth in 10:41.48 and Spencer Harvey finished seventh in 10:58.15. The distance relay squad, consisting of Camuel, Lovell, AJ Maxey and Noel Dingle, picked up a win with a time of 8:20.43.
 
In the hurdling events, Pete Shipley and Thomas Jordan posted a 1-2 finish in the 110, with Shipley winning with a time of 16.23. Jordan was the top finisher in the 400m hurdles, placing third with a time of 1:01.22, with Mykal Bright finishing 0.01 seconds behind him in fourth place.
 
The jumping events were more big point scorers for the Centre men. In the high jump, Bright finished seventh with a mark of 5-8.75, followed by Jordan with a career mark of 5-7. The pole vault saw Jordan, Bright and Nate Steiner all post personal bests and a 1-2-3 finish, with Jordan's clear of 12-1.5 the high mark for the event. In the long jump, it was Jordan once again leading the way for the Colonels with a mark of 21-11.5. Jake Pfaller joined May and Bright in the scoring column as Centre took up half of the scoring marks for the event. In the triple jump, Aaron Bastian finished seventh overall with a mark of 43-3.
 
The throwing events saw Allen Richardson hit a new career mark in the shot put, winning the event by throwing an even 52 feet, over four feet better than any other throw in the field. Richardson also posted a career best mark of 145-4 in the hammer to finish third. Will Perkins capped off a night full of personal bests to finish fifth in the hammer with a mark of 140-3. In the javelin, Bright set a new career best, finishing third overall with a mark of 120-1, while Braden Tabor finished fifth with a throw of 111-3.

The Colonels will have a week off before returning to action on Apr. 23 for the Southern Athletic Association Championships.
