DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre men's track and field hosted the first of two home meets in six days when it welcomed a field from all divisions to the Centre Invitational. The Colonels won the meet with an outstanding team performance.
The Colonels finished with 176 points for the day, 40 points ahead of second place Lindsey Wilson. The next highest Division III opponent was Berry, who finished fourth with 77 points.
In the sprints,
JP Vaught picked up a pair of victories for the Centre men. Vaught won the 100m with a time of 10.68, and then followed that up with a time of 21.25 to win the 200m.
Tanner May finished in fourth place in both events, while
Gray Rahbany took sixth place in the 100m.
The 400m saw a pair of Centre freshmen stand out as Rahbany finished second with a time of 50.64, followed immediately by
Jeremy Olliges with a time of 51.21.
In the distance events,
Noel Dingle finished fourth in the 800m with a time of 2:00.39, good for a personal best. The 5k saw
Ben Camuel finish second with a time of 15:45.40. In the 10k, the Colonels had three of the top four finishes.
Will Lovell took first place with a time of 33:01.82, followed by
David McGrade in second and
Alex Faulk in fourth
Thomas Jordan finished third in both hurdling events, posting times of 16.38 in the 110 and 1:02.82 in the 400.
Pete Shipley posted a personal best time of 16.19 to finish second in the 110, while
Jake Pfaller finished seventh in the 110.
The Centre men also earned a pair of relay victories, making history in one of them. In the 4x100, May, Rahany, Jordan and Vaught won with a school record time of 42.03 to edge the Berry squad by less than a second. In the 4x400, the team of Olliges, Rahbany, May and Vaught posted a time of 3:24.28, with May turning in a spectacular leg of the race.
The jumping events were another big point source for the Centre men. In the pole vault, Jordan placed second with a personal best clear of 10-4, followed by
Mykal Bright in third place. Jordan also was the top finisher for the Colonels, placing third with a mark of 21-8.75. Bright finished fifth in both the long jump and high jump and eighth in the triple jump, while
Drake Nunnery finished fourth in the long jump and
Jake Pfaller finished sixth in the triple jump.
In the throwing events,
Allen Richardson just missed out on a school record, winning the event with a personal best mark of 51-1.5 and finishing just three feet shy of the late Bill Botts's program record. Richardson also finished seventh in the hammer with a mark of 141-8.
