1/8/2022 8:33:00 PM

DANVILLE, Ky. - After a snowstorm canceled the first day of competition, the Centre swim teams finally got the 2022 portion of their schedule under way with an abbreviated Colonel Classic. The women's team finished in second place and the men's team in third, but the Colonels had the highest combined team score at the meet.

The first win of the day for Centre came in the men's 200 free relay, as the team of Jackson Fears, Ben Webster, Zolon Knoll and Kai Oddo took first place with a time of 1:31.24. It was the first of three relay victories for Fears, Knoll and Oddo, as they teamed with Bryan Killian to win both the 200 and 400 medley relays.

Fears also picked up an individual event victory, as he won the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.44.

Kai Oddo was a triple individual event winner for Centre on the men's side. He swept the freestyle sprints with winning times of 21.76 in the 50 and 48.35 in the 100, while also posting a time of 52.83 to earn a dominant win in the 100 backstroke.

The next individual event win for Centre came once again for the men's team as senior Sean Gilpatrick won the 400 IM in 4:33.35. It was the first of two victories for Gilpatrick, who also won the 200 backstroke in 2:06.99.

In addition to his wins in the medley relays, Killian also pulled off a clean sweep in the breaststroke with times of 1:00.12 in the 100 and 2:14.92 in the 200.

The first win for the Centre women was in the 100 fly as rookie Callie West continued her torrid pace in her first year with a winning time of 59.43, the only sub-minute time in the field. West would also win the 50 free in 25.04, the 100 free in 54.49 and teamed with Elise Burch, Savannah Gupton and Peyton Patel to win the 400 free relay.

In the women's 200 free, Burch earned a narrow victory with a time of 2:04.29.

The last victory of the day for Centre on the women's side came courtesy of Audrey Becker, who posted a first place time of 2:16.65 to win the 200 fly by almost five full seconds.
