LEXINGTON, Va. – After starting their season last weekend, the Centre men's and women's swimming & diving teams continued the young season on the east coast, visiting Washington & Lee for a dual meet on the road. The Colonels wouldn't find team victories in the meet, but had several notable swims in the 193-120 score for the women and 182-131 score for the men.
The Gold and White had several wins across the board of events,
Dustin Niebauer for the men finding two individual victories. The freshman won both backstroke races on Friday night, winning the 100 backstroke on a :52.89 final time and a 1:59.46 time in the 200 back.
Callie West would find a victory for the women in the women's 100 fly, the sophomore being the only swimmer in the field to swim a sub-one minute race on a :59.52 final time.
Jackson Fears would find some momentum in the men's 200 breast, out-splitting his W&L opponents in the second 100 yards by over a second to claim a victory in the event. Fears' final time in the race was a 2:14.12. The women's 1000 free also proved to showcase some strengths for the Gold and White,
Samantha Coffey (11:21.32) and
Greer Manger (11:32.14) finishing second and third, respectively.
The two teams had some great races in the meet's relays as well, the women finishing second in the 200 free relay. The crew of
Olivia Headley,
Katelynn Stanczyk,
Caroline Lee and Manger would combine for a 1:40.91. The men's 200 medley relay would be the strong point for the men's team, earning a second-place finish on a 1:37.57 time. The squad inside the A-relay would consist of Niebauer,
Ben Wafford, Fears and
Kai Oddo.
UP NEXT
The Colonels will step back up and race in less than 24 hours, competing at West Virginia Tech on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1 p.m. ET. The meet will be their final one on the east coast before heading back to Danville, Ky.
