2/12/2022 7:25:00 PM

Box Score CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Centre women's tennis team (2-0) kicked off the spring season with a little déjà vu, taking down their spring opening series in a clean sweep for the third season in a row. This year the Colonels took down the Covenant Scots (2-2), claiming all nine points in the matchup on Saturday afternoon.

The doubles teams featured a fast 8-0 wipe from the No. 3 position, the duo of Maddy Trinh and Caroline Lancaster making quick work of the first Centre point. The No. 1 team for the Colonels consisted of Katharine Sherman and Hannah Doherty, that pair reaching their victory on a final score of 8-3. The No. 2 series was the closest of the three in doubles, but the Gold and White team of Ella Rueff and Lainey Hill emerged victorious in their 8-5 final score to close out the doubles matches.

The Centre women swept the singles matches as well, Trinh not allowing her opponent to score a single point in 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 5 position. Both the No. 1 and No. 6 spots finished their respected series on top with a score of 6-1, 6-1, the former from Sherman and the later claimed by Lancaster. Rueff's series in the No. 2 position went just as well as her teammates, taking the win on a final score of 6-1, 6-2. Doherty's second half performance closed out her series on a high note, taking that victory 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 3 spot. Hill's No. 4 series featured a hot start by junior, setting the tone early in her 6-0, 6-3 win.
