DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre Assistant Athletic Director for Communications,
Kyle Piercy, has resigned his position and will be leaving the Colonels effective April 5, 2022, to start his new role as Director of Marketing and Communications with the newly-launched Lexington Pro Soccer club.
"I was fortunate to spend nearly five years working with fantastic coaches and administrators, as well as countless standout student-athletes. Telling their stories has been an honor," Piercy said. "Centre is an incredibly special place and allowed me to grow as a professional while building friendships that will last a lifetime.
"I would like to specifically thank Brad Fields for believing in me and supporting our efforts every step of the way. The leadership within Centre athletics is second to none, and the future for the Colonels is bright. I look forward to remaining involved in the community and attending games as a fan."
Piercy began as Director of Athletics Communications and Digital Media in 2017 and was elevated to Assistant Athletic Director in 2020. Since his arrival, he has he overseen the promotion of all of Centre's varsity sports while serving as the direct media relations contact for most. He and his team also handle the athletics web site and social media accounts, along with all press releases, publications, multi-media assets and statistics.
In 2019, he earned four honors through the CoSIDA Publications and Digital Design, including a pair of "Best in Nation" awards for his work on the 2018 Fall Colonels Insider. Piercy was also the Chair of Centre's 2018-19 rebranding committee, which introduced a unique and inclusive set of secondary and tertiary logos to accompany the "Primary C" and wordmarks originally adopted in 2015.
Along with his main responsibilities, Piercy was part of the External Relations team and acted as the primary media coordinator for numerous Southern Athletic Association and NCAA tournament events. Serving as the athletics brand ambassador, he was responsible for designing many of the environmental signage and banners throughout the athletics facilities.
"Kyle's obvious talent as a communicator, designer, and storyteller, combined with his pleasant temperament and quick wit have made him a valuable teammate," said Field. "I am grateful for the passion with which Kyle approached his work, as well as the personal sacrifices he made during his five years at Centre. I believe Kyle is one of the best sports information directors in all of intercollegiate sports, and he leaves behind big shoes to fill. We will miss Kyle as a professional, but even more as a person."
Piercy earned his undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism at the University of Kentucky in 2012, and a Master's in sports administration at the University of Indianapolis. Prior to his time at Centre, he spent four years at UIndy as a sports information director.
A national search to fill the position will begin shortly.
