ASHLAND, Va. – After hitting a win streak on back-to-back days of competing, the Centre men's tennis team (6-5) competed for the fourth day in a row on Tuesday afternoon. The team took on Randolph-Macon for their spring break contest, pushing their win streak to three after an incredible 9-0 sweep.
Similar to Monday's performance, the Colonels were able to get their brooms out for the sweep in the doubles section of the contest, the Gold and White completing a true sweep on two of the three.
Danny Nelson and
Jett Anderson teamed up to be the first doubles match to conclude, Centre's No. 2 series ending in a 8-0 score.
Bo Bush and
Jasper Gazzo would collect their sixth doubles win of the season on Tuesday, the underclassmen duo taking down the Yellow Jackets 8-2 in the No. 1 slot of the lineup. Not far behind to finish was
Matthew Bulow and
Ashton Whitt, the two's first time together this season on the court pushing a strong and decisive 8-0 victory as the team's No. 3.
The Colonels would perform just as well in the singles matches, two of the six series didn't contain a single set for Randolph-Macon. Gazzo was one of the two series to accomplish this feat, sweeping his opponent 6-0, 6-0 as the No. 2 series while Bulow rounding out the team's lineup as the No. 6 in his own 6-0, 6-0 score.
Faraz Ghamgosar jumped into the mix and became the team's No. 1 on Tuesday afternoon, having a strong second-half of the match with his 6-2, 6-0 final score.
Newcomb Maddux got off to a hot start in his No. 5 singles match against his Yellow Jacket foe, carrying his momentum the entire way in a 6-0, 6-3 finish.
Emerson Dean was able to find his seventh win of the spring season after going up against his opponent, the team's No. 4 emerging victorious on a 6-2, 6-3 final score. After claiming the win yesterday against Roanoke, Nelson kept that drive and as Centre's No. 3 was able to come up with his second-straight singles win on a final score of 6-2, 6-4.
The Colonels will have one more contest out east before heading back to Kentucky, their next stop being at Virginia Wesleyan. That contest will be played out in Virginia Beach, Va., on Wednesday, March 23 at 3 p.m.
