JACKSON, Miss. – After splitting Saturday's doubleheader, Centre baseball reconvened with Millsaps in the rubber match of their SAA-opening series. The Millsaps bats caught fire early and often as they won by a score of 15-5.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels were the first to crack the scoreboard. In the top of the second, a passed ball allowed
Cole Fergusson to score all the way from second base to give Centre a 1-0 lead.
- Millsaps responded in a big way, scoring four in the third and two in the fourth before the Colonels started to chip away at the lead in the fifth.
Will Ahrens led off with a walk,
Conner Jackson followed with a base hit and
Karson Thompson was hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out.
Jordan Gunter, on fire for the entire series, lined a base hit to right to make it 6-2, and the Colonels tacked on another after a Millsaps wild pitch.
- Trailing 8-3 in the eighth, Fergusson reached on an error and
Luc Morgan singled up the middle. A sacrifice fly advanced the runners and Jackson delivered a clutch double into the gap to score a pair of runs.
- Millsaps capped off the game with seven runs in their half of the eighth, including a bases-clearing double and a three-run homer that did the majority of the damage.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jackson had the best hitting day of his career, going 3-4 at the plate, including the two-RBI double in the eighth.
- Gunter batted nearly .500 for the series, going 2-4 with an RBI today.
- Millsaps scored their 15 runs on 16 hits.
