Men’s tennis pushes streak after taking down Millsaps

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre men's tennis team (8-5, 1-1 SAA) put their four-game win streak on the line on Saturday morning, hosting an inner-conference matchup with Millsaps. The Colonels were able to beat the Majors for their fifth consecutive win in the latter half of the season, winning on a final score of 9-0.

The Gold and White were able to push a hot start on Saturday morning, sweeping all three doubles matches in their favor to take a commanding 3-0 lead. The reining SAA Doubles Team of the Week of Jasper Gazzo and Bo Bush collected their fifth-straight win, this time as the team's No. 2 pair in the 8-4 score. Newcomb Maddux and Danny Nelson put together their third consecutive win, their final score against Millsaps on an 8-2 mark as Centre's No. 3. The top of the lineup in Faraz Ghamgosar and Ashton Whitt was a tight battle, their Major foe making them go the distance on an 8-7 (4) final score to sweep the doubles matches in favor of the Gold and White.

Centre didn't let off the gas in the singles matches, the top three matches to kick off the second half of action in the Centre Tennis Courts resulting in three more wins to seal a team victory. Gazzo was the first to conclude in his No. 3 match, the final score resulting in a 6-1, 6-4 win for the Colonels. Bush's consistency across the duel boded well for the sophomore, the team's No. 2 compiling another Centre point on the 6-3, 6-3 victory. Playing out the rest of the matches on Saturday morning, Ghamgosar found his way into the mix to claim the sixth Colonels point, his hot start resulting in a 6-2, 6-4 as the team's No. 1. Matthew Bulow came into the contest to keep the momentum driving for the Colonels, the senior giving the Gold and White another point on a 6-1, 6-4 final score. The final two series to conclude belonged to No. 6 Emerson Dean in a 6-2, 6-1 victory and No. 5 Jett Anderson who rounded out Satyrday's matches on a 6-2, 6-2 final score.

The Colonels will get a short rest before getting back onto the courts tomorrow to face the second of six-straight SAA contests. Sunday, April 3's contest will be at home, the Colonels celebrating the team's senior class after the final singles match concludes. Their matchup against Birmingham-Southern is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. on the outdoor tennis courts, the Senior Day Celebrations following afterwards.
