ROME, Ga. - After rallying in extra innings to take a doubleheader split on Saturday, the Centre baseball team played the third and final game of their series against the Berry Vikings. The Vikings took the rubber match by a score of 16-3.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The game was scoreless for the first two innings before the Berry offense exploded in the third, as a Centre error and a grand slam contributed to a seven-run frame for the Vikings.
- Berry tacked on three more runs in the fourth, but the Colonels made some noise in the fifth.
Jordan Gunter and
Karson Thompson got on with consecutive singles and
Josh Cunningham brought everybody home with a three-run homer to cut the deficit to 10-3.
- The Colonels were unable to score any more runs in the rally and Berry put up six of their own in the bottom half of the inning to wrap up the scoring.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Cunningham's three-run homer was his first since Mar. 1 at Spalding and his three RBIs tied for a season high.
- Thompson's three hits tied the season high he achieved against Grinnell on the Florida trip.
- Centre's five errors were the most the Colonels recorded in a game this season.
NEXT UP
Centre baseball will be back in action on Wednesday with a home contest against Spalding. Originally scheduled for Apr. 5, the game is a rematch of the Mar. 1 matchup in Louisville, won by Spalding, 7-5.
