Box Score CONWAY, Ark. – Riding a program-record six-game win streak, the Centre men's tennis team (10-5, 3-1 SAA) took on the first of four consecutive road contests to close the regular season on Saturday morning. Their first stop was against the Hendrix Warriors, the Colonels pushing their streak to seven in a row after securing a 5-2 victory.
The Gold and White started strong in the doubles matches, emerging as victors in two of the three series that took place.
Jett Anderson and
Newcomb Maddux duo'ed together for the first time this season as a doubles team, taking down their Warriors opponent 8-2 in the No. 3 slot of the lineup. The No. 2 series was owned by
Bo Bush and
Danny Nelson, the squad earning a victory just as dominant against Hendrix with an 8-2 victory. The final series drew a point for the Warriors,
Faraz Ghamgosar and
Ashton Whitt not able to secure the win as the team's No. 1 series on an 8-3 final score.
The two teams decided to play until clinch, Centre only needing four of the six series to complete before the Colonels clinched the win. The first point in the singles category for the Gold and White belonged to Maddux, the senior showing his dominance in a 6-1, 6-0 victory as the team's No. 6 in the lineup. Anderson was the second match to conclude, the No. 4 punching in a 6-1, 6-2 win to finish second in order. The third series to conclude wasn't in the Colonels' favor, Ghamgosar falling in the No. 1 slot on a final score of 6-3, 6-1.
Danny Nelson's series secured the clinch for Centre on Saturday morning with his No. 5 series win, the 6-1, 6-2 final score ending the contest. Two series were left unfinished but were in the Colonels' favor before the end. Bush's No. 2 series did not finish on a score of 6-3, 2-1 and Whitt's No. 3 ended on a 6-2, 5-2 score in the No. 3 spot of the lineup.
The Colonels will take a short rest before they take on the Rhodes Lynx on Sunday, April 10. The Gold and White will travel back up north to Memphis, Tenn., for the 11 a.m. start time.
