MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Centre men's tennis team saw one of its best seasons in modern history come to a close at the hands of the top seed Sewanee Tigers in the finals of the Southern Athletic Association Championships.
The Colonels fell behind early in doubles as
Faraz Ghamgosar and
Ashton Whitt lost 8-1 at the no. 1 position.
Bo Bush and
Jasper Gazzo lost 8-4 at no. 2 doubles to put Centre in a 2-0 hole. The Colonels salvaged a point at no. 3 doubles as
Danny Nelson and
Matthew Bulow earned a tough victory with an 8-7 win, including a 7-5 tiebreaker in the final set.
Moving onto singles, Bulow lost at the no. 6 position 6-2, 6-3. At no. 5 singles,
Jett Anderson lost the opening set 6-2, but bounced back with a 6-4 win, forcing a third and final set, which the Tigers took 6-1. The clinching point came at no. 4 singles as Gazzo lost 6-3, 6-2.
Each of the final three singles matches involving Bush (6-3, 4-6, 1-2), Whitt (4-6, 3-4) and Ghamgosar (6-7 (3-7)) remained unfinished.
Centre men's tennis finished with a 14-7 overall record. The Colonels' eight-match winning streak during the final six weeks of the regular season was the longest in program history.
