DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre swimming & diving teams competed in their final home meet of the 2022-23 season on Saturday morning, honoring eight seniors in their duel meet against the Asbury Eagles. The Colonels continued their strong season with a pair of team wins, the women holding a score of 153-62 while the men stretched their margin a little farther at 156-59.
The Gold & White's eight seniors each competed in multiple events over the weekend, the squad combining for six different victories during the meet.
Elise Burch emerged as the top finisher in the women's 50 free, her :24.67 final time beating the field by over a second.
Henry Lang had two different wins in his name, coming from the 400 medley and 400 free relays. The former included a :48.92 split as the freestyle leg with fellow senior-captain
Austen Reid for a final time of 3:38.51 alongside
Dustin Niebauer and
Ben Wafford. The latter relay had a 3:18.63 finish, Lang teaming up with
Wyatt Fulton,
Jackson Fears and
Kai Oddo.
Audrey Becker would earn an individual title in the women's 200 IM, her 2:17.26 final time earning the win by over four seconds.
Luke Webster would be the final senior to earn a victory on Saturday morning, touching first in the men's 1000 free on a final 11:03.47 final time.
Senior
Claire Pellegrin would finish second overall on the women's side of the 1000 free, dropping almost four seconds from her seed time to hit a final time of 11:47.98.
Emily Preston would also earn a second-place finish over the weekend, teaming up on a senior 400 free relay with Burch, Pellegrin and Becker for a 3:54.39 runner-up time.
Katie Hollingsworth would excel on both the diving board and in the lanes, Hollingsworth earning a 14.26-point improvement from her listed score to finish third on the women's one-meter with 113.71 points.
Greer Manger would be the women's high-point winner over the weekend, sweeping a perfect three-for-three in event wins. Manger would split a :54.86 time as the freestyle leg in the women's 400 medley relay, their 4:02.33 combined time winning the event alongside
Caroline Lee,
Natalie Cox and
Callie West. Oddo was the men's top performer on the day, claiming two individual victories in the men's 50 free (:21.37) and 100 back (:54.23).
Freshman
Brandon Anderson achieved a new personal-best score on the men's one-meter, six dive set, surpassing his 300.05 total to a new 304.95 final score.
Jonah Crenshaw would finish right behind him, totaling a new personal-best as well at 179.7 points.
Haley Rice would earn the top spot in her tightest win of the season, her 164.86-point total surpassing teammate
Gracie O'Brien's final score by .16 points (O'Brien would finish with 164.7).
Centre would have several other multiple-event winners on Saturday, three on both the men and the women's teams. The women's student-athletes included Lee (400 medley relay, 200 free), Cox (400 medley relay, 100 breast) and West (400 medley relay, 100 free). The men's multi-event victors were Niebauer (400 medley relay, 200 free), Wafford (400 medley relay, 200 IM) and Fulton (100 free, 400 free relay).
Now closing up the regular season, the Colonels will next compete at the Southern Athletic Association championships in the second week of February. The teams will travel out to Birmingham, Ala., to kick off the meet on Wednesday, Feb 8 through Saturday, Feb. 11.
