SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – It was an early start to the 2024 season for Centre women's track & field as they competed in the Tiger Opener at Wittenberg. The Colonels were without many of their distance runners still recovering from cross country season, but despite facing a stacked field of teams from all divisions, the Centre women still impressed with their performances at the non-scored meet.
A Centre rookie etched her name in the school record book in her first collegiate race as Chloe Hein posted a time of 25.74 in the 200m to break the school record previously set by teammate
Madjo Doumbia in 2022. That time was good enough for fourth overall, but first among D3 runners.
Three-time All-American
Jasmine Claunch picked up where she left off in the triple jump as she won the event with a mark of 39-2.25. Fellow senior
Shelby Smith was not too far behind as she finished fourth overall with a jump of 35-3. In other jumping events,
Callie Gormley hit a new personal best mark in the long jump as she posted a mark of 17-8.75 to finish second overall. Hein finished seventh in the same event, finishing with a jump of 16-11.25.
Riley Brown tied for seventh in the high jump with a clear of 4-7.
Moving onto throws, the Colonels got another win as senior
Lauren Foutch posted a mark of 41-5.75 to take first place in the shot put by nearly two full feet. Foutch won her second event in as many chances as she shattered her personal best mark in the weight throw, posting a mark of 51-2 to get the win by over three feet.
