AUSTIN, Texas – The Centre men's tennis team (4-8, 0-1 SAA) kicked of their spring break trip in Texas on Saturday night, taking on Concordia (TX) in an away contest. After falling behind early, the Colonels came one match away from the comeback but fell short on a 5-4 final score.
The Tornadoes garnered their edge on the Gold & White through the doubles matches, Centre falling in all three of the series. The Colonels wouldn't go down without a fight though,
Jett Anderson and
Jasper Gazzo pushing a duel in the no. 3 slot of the lineup as far as the series could go, falling on an 8-7 final score.
Ashton Whitt and
Faraz Ghamgosar would also hold a tense back-and-forth series, but being on the losing side of an 8-6 final score in the no. 2 spot of the lineup.
Ben Rueff and
Bo Bush were the members of the no. 1 team in the lineup, the final score being 8-1 in favor of Concordia.
Centre would push the comeback by winning four out of the six series in the singles matches, one short of earning the team win. Anderson held the most dominant win of the night, his no. 6 victory coming way of a 6-3, 6-0 final score.
Ben Rueff erupted for a dominant second set after a tight first one in his no. 4 series, catching a victory for the Gold & White on a 7-6, 6-0 score. The no. 3 spot in the lineup was held by
Bo Bush, the junior earning another singles win this season with his 6-4, 6-3 final score.
Ty Bush earned the final team point for Centre on Saturday's contest, pushing a strong response set in the 2-6, 6-1 (unfinished). Whitt came close to earning another point for Centre after a strong first set, but fell short in the no. 5 lineup spot 4-6, 7-6, 6-2. Ghamgosar was the final match of the singles series, holding the no. 1 court that held a 6-1, 6-4 score for Concordia.
The Colonels will continue their spring break tour in Texas with a stop to San Antonio, Texas next, competing with Coby College on Tuesday, March 21. The two teams are scheduled to face off starting at 9 a.m. ET.
