Colonels defeat Pioneers 6-4 in rainy rivalry game

DANVILLE, Ky. – After winning their first road conference series of the season, Centre baseball hosted Transylvania in a midweek rivalry clash. On a rainy night at Gary Wright Field, the Colonels picked up their 14th win of the season with a 6-4 victory.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The Colonels cracked the scoreboard first in their half of the second inning. Ben Prather and Chase Austin led off with consecutive singles, and then a pair of clutch two-out hits from Teddy Holloway and Evan Weyler put Centre on top by two.
- Transylvania rallied with a pair of runs in the fourth to tie the game, but the Colonels bounced back in the sixth. Dillon Di Iorio led off with a bunt single, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored after Ben Prather's triple just missed clearing the center field wall.
- In the bottom of the seventh, the Colonels added to the lead as Jamie Laframboise and Weyler singled and then Cunningham brought everybody home with a massive homer that landed near the scoreboard.
- The Pioneers added a run in the eighth and a leadoff homer in the ninth, but David Kinsbrunner got the final three batters out to lock down the victory for the Colonels.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- Cunningham's blast in the seventh inning was Centre's first homer since Di Iorio went yard at Berea on Feb. 28.
- Kinsbrunner recorded a six-out save, inheriting runners on first and second with nobody out.
- The Colonels struck out ten Pioneer batters, led by Mason King with five as he picked up the win after pitching 3.1 shutout innings.
