Centre baseball walks off for 7-6 victory over Rhodes

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre baseball team faced off against the Rhodes Lynx in the rubber match of the first conference series of the season. The Colonels overcame a three-run deficit to walk it off with a 7-6 comeback victory to take the series.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Centre grabbed the quick lead in the first inning with a two-out rally as Karson Thompson was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a passed ball, and then was driven in by a Ben Prather RBI double.
- The Colonels added two more in the second. A Cole Fergusson single was sandwiched in between a pair of errors to load the bases. Josh Cunningham lined a base hit to left to score Fergusson and Jamie Laframboise, putting Centre up 3-0.
- From there, the offense cooled and the Rhodes bats heated up, scoring six runs over the next five innings to take the lead. In the bottom of the eighth, with Prather on third, pinch hitter Chase Austin lined the first pitch he saw to the opposite field for an RBI single to narrow the gap to 6-4.
- Trailing by two in the ninth, Cunningham led off with a double down the left field line and scored on a base hit by Thompson to cut the deficit to 6-5. Centre loaded the bases on a fielder's choice and an infield hit by Will Cline, and then an errant throw on a ground ball allowed Thompson and Prather to score to pick up the victory for the Colonels.
