HANOVER, Ind. – The Centre baseball team continued to roll in the non-conference portion of the schedule as they utilized the long ball to help obtain their 23rd victory of the season, defeating the Hanover Panthers by a score of 6-4.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Hanover got the scoring started in the second inning as a Centre error led to a pair of unearned runs.
- In the top of the third, Centre cut the deficit in half after
Jamie Laframboise led off with a solo home run.
- The Panthers tacked on another unearned run after an error to go back up by two runs in the fourth, but the Centre bats caught fire in the fifth.
- Centre loaded the bases after a single by
Evan Weyler, a double from
Josh Cunningham and a walk to
Dillon Di Iorio. The Colonels scored their first run of the inning on a sac fly from
Ben Prather and Hanover looked to escape the inning with a one-run lead, but
Karson Thompson blasted a three-run shot over the left field wall to put the Colonels on top 5-3.
- Leading 5-4 in the eighth,
Chase Austin was hit by a pitch and pinch runner
Will Kempf took advantage of three Hanover wild pitches to eventually score a key insurance run for Centre.
- Now up by two, the Panthers threatened to tie the game in the ninth with runners on second and third, but
David Kinsbrunner picked up a clutch strikeout and
Zach Heavern recorded the 27th out to secure the victory for the Colonels.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Today's game was the first multi-homer game for the Colonels since the opening doubleheader against Baldwin Wallace on Feb. 18. It was the first home run for Laframboise since Apr. 6 of last year against Spalding.
- Thompson was the only Centre player with multiple hits on the day, and his game high three RBIs were from his team high fourth home run of the year.
- Centre pitchers struck out a season high 14 batters in today's game, led by
Aidan Christmas and
Mason King with four each in long relief efforts.

The Colonels will go back on the road this weekend as they face top ranked Birmingham-Southern in a battle for first place in the Southern Athletic Association.
