DANVILLE, Ky. – Coming off a strong 7-2 win over the Hendrix Warriors on Saturday, the Centre men's tennis team (6-9, 1-2 SAA) took the courts once more on Sunday for their final match of the weekend. The Colonels hosted the Rhodes Lynx in one of their tightest contests of the season but fell in the final singles match of the contest with a 5-4 final score.
The Gold & White took a quick advantage early after the doubles matches on Sunday, winning two of the three series in the Seabury Family Tennis Center.
Ben Rueff and
Faraz Ghamgosar tag teamed for their second double win of the season together, garnering the first point of the day for Centre in the 8-2 win at the no. 2 spot of the lineup.
Ashton Whitt and
Jasper Gazzo would duo at the no. 3 position for an 8-4 win and the team advantage, the pair marking their third doubles win in a row. The Colonels came close to sweeping the doubles matches but fell in a tight 8-6 score in the no. 1 slot,

Rhodes would tie the contest back up with the first singles point of the second half of the match, Ghamgosar falling on a 6-0, 6-1 score in the no. 2 position. Rueff would push forward for Centre in trying to hold strong, the freshman taking down his Lynx opponent 6-4, 6-4 in the no. 4 spot. Gazzo also took down his foe in a stellar 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 comeback at the no. 6 slot, grabbing Centre's fourth team point. The final three series would all be decided by three sets, unfortunately all falling in favor of the Lynx. Bush would fall on a final score of 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 at the top of the lineup, Whitt coming close in his no. 3 loss at 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
Jett Anderson's third set at the no. 5 came as close as you can get, forcing a tiebreaker in the tiebreaking set, but came just short on the 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 loss.
The Colonels will look to bounce back next weekend, hosting a pair of non-conference matches on their home courts. They'll first take on Asbury on Thursday, April 6 with a start time listed at 4:30 p.m. ET.
