SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Centre men's tennis team began the non-traditional portion of the 2023-24 schedule with the ITA Regionals, hosted by Sewanee. The tournament featured some strong performances from the Colonels in both singles and doubles.
In the main singles draw,
Ben Rueff picked up a victory in the opening round as he defeated Jackson Davis of Sewanee by a score of 3-6, 6-2, 10-8. In the consolation round for the main singles draw, one of the brackets featured a pair of Colonels in the finals.
Bo Bush earned wins over George Alexander of Sewanee and Hayden LeBlanc of Brevard, while
Ashton Whitt defeated Nicholas Miloi of Rhodes and Alejandro Caceres of Asbury, setting up the all-Centre final, which went to Bush.
On the other side of the main singles consolation bracket,
Ty Bush earned victories over Willis Belser of Methodist, Sewanee's Jackson Davis and Austin Dreslinski of Covenant.
In the purple singles main bracket, Issac Flannery picked up victories over Jake Chapman of Berry and Gill Dunn of Covenant, while
Jasper Gazzo defeated Hunter Johnson of Rhodes.
After dropping the first match in the gold singles bracket,
Anderson Gosnell won his consolation round with victories over players from Hendrix, Covenant and Birmingham-Southern.
The best singles tournament of the event belonged to
Jett Anderson, who won all five of his matches, knocking off Devin Horton (Brevard), Caleb Solangi (Millsaps), Nicholas Koch (Berry), Callum Searle (BSC) and Fant Smith (Berry) to win the black singles bracket.
Moving onto doubles, the Bush brothers picked up a win in the main bracket, while Rueff and Whitt won twice in their consolation bracket. The team of
Tanner Ray and Emilio Ventura Ramirez earned a victory in the gold bracket, while the team of Anderson and Gazzo picked up the win in the black bracket, making Anderson perfect for the weekend.
