DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's track & field opened the brand new Fieldhouse with the Centre Indoor Showcase, where the Colonels posted a runner-up finish out of 11 teams.
In the women's 5k, sophomore
Sophie Bouldin got the win for Centre as she finished first with a time of 18:02.62, more than a minute faster than the next fastest finisher. In the 1000m,
Kate Keller finished third overall and topped the Division 3 field with a time of 3:28.80. Five Colonels cracked the top eight in the 3000m, led by
Meghan Owens, who finished second in 10:39.28.
Cara Taylor,
Erin Haugh,
Emma Musgrave and
Rachel Gaynor each got into the scoring column in that race as well.
The 60m hurdles saw
Joyner Jikang post a time of 10.02 to finish fourth overall.
Janea Bottinelli,
Kiyah King and
Arden Campbell all finished directly behind Jikang in that order.
The sprints were good races for the Centre women. In the 60m,
Madjo Doumbia broke her previous school record by 0.02 seconds as she posted a time of 7.84. Indoor 200m record holder
Chloe Hein finished fourth overall with a time of 7.99. In the 200m, the Colonels took the top two times as Hein won in 26.03, followed by Doumbia in 26.32. In the 4x400m relay, the team of Doumbia, Hein, Bouldin and
Ainsley Wilson took second place overall with a time of 4:16.83.
In the long jump, Hein finished third overall with a mark of 17-1.5. She was immediately followed by
Shelby Smith with a mark of 16-4.75. The triple jump saw
Jasmine Claunch finish less than an inch away from her school record as she won the event with a mark of 39-9.25. Smith (36-2.75) and King (33-1.25) finished a respective second and seventh in the event. The women's pole vault saw
Jessica Peterson finish seventh overall after a clear of 7-5.75.
Lindsey Browning took second place overall in the women's weight throw after a mark of 44-11.

The Colonels will return to action next week as they head to Wittenberg to compete in the Steemer Indoor Showcase.
