Akers takes first in Centre Classic

DANVILLE, Ky. – On Monday morning, the Centre men's golf team hosted a 36-hole, individual tournament at the Danville Country Club. Competing as individuals, the Colonels held three athletes in the top 5.
 
Harrison Akers took first place outright out of the 22 competing student athletes. The junior bettered his first round with even par for his second round to close with a final combined score of 149 (77-72). 
 
Jiles Wyatt tied for second amongst the field. Finishing as the only Colonel with a round under par, the senior closed his play with a mark of 150 (82-68).
 
Joshua Peters was the final Colonel in the top five. The senior shaved seven strokes off between his two rounds to take home a final score of 153 (80-73).
 
Charlie Reber claimed seventh outright after his 36-hole performance. The sophomore tallied an Eagle on hole one in his second round, ultimately finishing with a mark of 156 (83-73).
 
Ben Bevington claimed a share of the 11th seed with a complete score of 158 (78-80).
 
Brett Cooper, Palmer McKelvey, and Evan Avret shared a three-way tie for 15th, each obtaining a score of 159, Cooper with (79-80), McKelvey with (84-75), and Avert with (82-77).
 
James Folz took 24th place outright. The senior shaved seven strokes off between his two rounds to close with a mark of 163 (85-78).
 
Grey Goodwin, Shane Limberg, and Jack Butts shared the tie for 25th, each achieving a combined score of 164. Goodwin scratched (78-86), Limberg scored (81-83), while Butts marked (78-86).
 
Cameron Bassel landed in a tie for 30th after scratching a 166 (81-85).
 
Andrew Mainka followed Bassel closely, claiming 34th with a final score of 168 (82-86).
 
Rounding out Centre's roster, Charlie Morgan tied for 35th with a score of 169 (86-83) while Dylan McGrath shared the tie for 37 with a final mark of 172 (84-88).
