DANVILLE, Ky. / LEXINGTON, Va. – Centre swimming & diving had a unique Sunday as the team split up and sent half of the squad to a meet at Washington and Lee University and the other half stayed home to take on Midway University.
The Midway meet saw the women's squad pick up a 133-97 victory while the men won 153-55
Both teams fell in Virigina as the men's team fell 180-80 and the women's team had a 168-94 setback.
HOME MEET: Centre vs. Midway
The Colonel men led the way at home with 11 wins.
Logen Black and
Hunter Crain earned the most with a tally of three each. They both were part of a winning 200 medley relay, that also featured
Luca Courteau and
Max Galvin, that took first in 1:46.99.
Black also won the 200 freestyle by a decent margin and touched the wall in 1:52.37. His last win came in the 100 freestyle that he took in a thrilling finish of 51.46 which was just .47 quicker than second place.
Crain earned his other wins in the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. The 50 freestyle race he won in 23.07 and he took the 100 backstroke in 59.52.
Four more Centre participants took multiple wins.
Avery Balch was one of those four and swept the diving events. The senior took the one-meter by a score of 327.37 and the three-meter by a tally of 326.10. Both were regional NCAA qualifying marks.
Courteau added his second win in the 200 IM (2:09.31) while Galvin tallied win no. 2 with first in the 100 butterfly (58.20).
Mac Allen also had double wins thanks to touching the wall first in the 500 freestyle (5:19.22) and then teaming up with
Nate Fairchild,
Henry Hawkins, and
Aikman Warren to close out the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.12).
The Colonel women also had a great day in the pool as the squad earned seven wins in the Champions Hall hosted event.
Four of the seven winners took home wins in multiple events.
Lillian Moore was one of those winners and in the 200 freestyle relay, with
Emma Meyer,
Luke Emerson, and
Zoe Florence, the Centre side won in 1:50.30. Moore's other win was in the 100 freestyle. She won in 12:02.18, over 20 seconds faster than second place.
Florence, who was in that relay, picked up a victory in the 200 IM in a time of 2:25.45.
Roya Sanai won her first two races as a Colonel in the meet. She won the 200 freestyle in 2:07.20 and the 100 backstroke in 1:03.72.
Erin Dannemiller swept the diving events in Danville. She won the one-meter with a score of 188.47 and the three-meter in 180.45.
AWAY MEET: Centre vs. Washington & Lee
The women's team was once again led by
Callie West. The senior won all three of the races she entered in Virginia. Those performances included the 50 freestyle (24.60), 100 freestyle (53.99), and the 100 butterfly (58.84).
Sarah Feild, fresh off being the first ever Centre woman to win a race in Champions Hall, touched the wall first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:54.83.
Katelynn Stanczyk was the other women's winner for the Colonels in Virginia. She tallied a first place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:58.88. Stanczyk also tallied a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle just over a second behind the winner.
Three more members of the Centre women's squad earned second-place finishes.
Avery Gabbard was second in the 100 backstroke (1:02.06),
Claire Ackerman tallied a no. 2 finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.79), and
Olivia Headley barely missed first in the 50 freestyle (24.97).
On the men's side,
Brady Miller was once again strong in the 1000 freestyle. He won that event, breaking the pool record in the process, in 9:50.12. He then tallied a second place result in the 500 freestyle (4:44.33).
Tiernan Moore earned two second place finishes on Sunday. He finished the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.74 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.90.
Four more Centre men notched second-place results.
Jackson Fears and
Ben Camp each came second in butterfly events as Fears tallied a time of 1:59.38 in the 200 and Camp finished the 100 in 54.08.
The other two runner up showings for the Colonels came for
Dustin Niebauer in the 100 backstroke (53.50) and
Ben Wafford in the 200 IM (2:03.49).
UP NEXT
Centre takes on Campbellsville University on Friday to continue the early season. That meet is set for 6:30 p.m. and is hosted by the Tigers.
