CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Centre swimming & diving won big on Friday night as both squads had a positive showing at Campbellsville University to start the weekend.
The Colonels of the women's team won 125-77 and the men's squad won 124-68.
Relay success began and ended the meet for the Centre women. The squad of
Avery Gabbard,
Whitney Dollins,
Rachel Mitter, and
Lucy Lowe teamed up to win the 200 medley relay in 2:09.62 to open the meet. Gabbard,
Sophia McCalla,
Zoe Florence, and
Roya Sanai won the 400 freestyle relay in 4:23.50 to close the women's portion of the meet.
Another relay win for the women came in the 200 freestyle relay. Dollins, Mitter, Lowe, and Florence earned the victory in 1:58.69.
Three swimmers won individual events for the women's side of the Gold & White squad. Lowe touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle (1:05.69), Florence took first in the 50 freestyle (29.85), and Sanai won the 100 backstroke (1:11.15).
For the men, relay success was also on the docket. The 200 freestyle relay was won by Centre in 1:41.98 thanks to the team of
Zolon Knoll,
Nikolai Garding,
Ben Webster, and
Jackson Fears. In the final race of the meet, the 400 freestyle relay,
Jake Holmes,
Logen Black,
Jackson Campbell, and
Mac Allen won with a time of 3:51.09.
Holmes led the Colonels on the individual wins side with two victories. The freshman won the 200 IM in 2:18.95, which was nearly 10 seconds faster than second. He then later went on to win the 100 backstroke (1:03.88).
Zolon Knoll and
Davis Pingleton tied in the 50 freestyle as both touched the wall in 26.29 for the win. Garding joined in on the individual win party with a victory in the 100 freestyle (57.69).
UP NEXT
A double dual meet at Union Commonwealth University is next for the Gold & White. Centre will face UCU and Shawnee State in Barbourville, Ky. At 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
