BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – The first double dual of 2024 for Centre swimming & diving was a success as both teams beat both opponents on Saturday in the pool and on the boards.
The women representing the Gold & White beat Shawnee State University 247-34 and Union Commonwealth University 221-78. The Colonel men took a 242-50 win over SSU and a 149-43 victory over UCU.
Two Centre women earned three wins each while three more earned two wins.
Natalie Cox took the first of her three events in the 400 medley relay. Cox was joined by
Katie Bridwell,
Caroline Short, and
Olivia Headley in the 4:09.09 winning effort.
Cox's other two wins came in breaststroke races. She won the 100 breaststroke 1:09.06 in and the 200 in 2:30.91. Both were season best times for the junior.
Callie West was the other Colonel to win three events. The senior won two freestyle events to start her winning stretch. She took the 50 freestyle in 25.09 and the 100 free in 54.50. She also touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.89.
Three more freestyle wins came for the Colonel women thanks to
Katelynn Stanczyk. Stanczyk won the 200 freestyle race in 1:59.21 and the 500 in 5:25.05, while
Sarah Feild took the 1000 meter race in 10:52.56.
Avery Gabbard and
Sara Jean Postle were the last multi-event winners for Centre. Gabbard earned season bests in her wins in the 100 backstroke (1:01.50) and the 200 backstroke (2:13.95), while Postle won the one-meter dive (201.60) and the three-meter dive (194.70).
Cate Coartney was also a winner as she took the 400 IM in 4:50.32.
For the men, a record was broken for a second time this season. Freshman
Brady Miller broke the program record in the 1000 freestyle for the second time this season with a 9:39.10 showing. The Versailles, Ky. native also won the 500 freestyle with a season best time of 4:43.94.
Diving also featured a double winner for the Colonel men.
Avery Balch took both the one-meter dive (324.15) and the three-meter dive (363.80). The senior transfer has won every diving event he has entered this season.
Dustin Niebauer won the 200 backstroke with a season-best time of 2:00.62.
Ben Wafford picked up the last Centre win with a 4:26.53 showing in the 400 IM.
UP NEXT
The swim and dive squads head to Indiana next to take on host Wabash and Albion in a double dual meet. The competition is slated for Sat., Oct. 26 at 2 p.m.
