Women’s golf closes fall circuit with first place finish

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio- The Centre women's golf team initiated their second round of the Wittenberg Fall Classic on Monday morning, held at the Springfield Country Club. Entering the final 18-holes in first, the Colonels held firm to close their 2024 fall circuit with a first-place team finish. 
 
At tournament's end, the Gold & White placed first as a team in total birdies with 14, total pars with 42, and total par-3s with an average of 3.30 a round. 
 
Anika Rana finished in first place on the individual leaderboard with a completed score of 146 (73-73). Her consistency placed her at the top of both the par-4 and total par individual leaderboard. 
 
Grace Walker followed just after her teammate, taking second place outright with a final mark of 149 (73-76). The senior averaged 4.20 par-4s a round, slotting her in a tie for second most in the tournament. 
 
Janie Morgan completed her play with a final score of 150 (75-75), placing her in a two-way tie for third individually. The junior led the entire tournament with her performances on par-5 holes, averaging 4.25 a round.
 
Ellie Roof bettered her day one showing by shaving five strokes off in round two. The sophomore claimed a share of the 11th seed with a final mark of 159 (82-77).
 
Emily Warner jumped 14 seeds up the leaderboard between her two rounds, closing in a tie for 14th with a final score of 161 (84-77).
 
Competing individually, Grace Vernon tied for 26th with a completed score of 167 (85-82).
 
SUNDAY RECAP 
On Sunday morning, the Centre women's golf team teed off in the Wittenberg Fall Classic, held at the Springfield Country Club. After their first set of 18-holes, the Colonels rest in first place as team with two athletes tied for first individually. 
 
As a team, the Gold & White is currently ranked in the top two teams for their performance in par-3, par-4, and par-5 scoring. In addition, the Colonels are the highest ranked team in both total birdies (14) and total pars (43). 
 
Anika Rana and Grace Walker currently share the tie for first individually after their opening round, each with a score of 73. Rana is currently the top performing athlete in both par and par-4 play. The senior averaged 4.1 par-4s a round and leads the entire tournament with 15 total pars. Walker followed just after Rana, in second, on the par-4 leaderboard. 
 
Janie Morgan currently rests in fifth outright with a score of 75. The junior is presently leading the tournament in total birdies with six.
 
Ellie Roof is the final Colonel to crack the top 25. The sophomore landed in the tie for 23rd with an opening score of 82.
 
Rounding out Centre's line-up, Emily Warner shared the tie for 28th with a first-round mark of 84.
 
Competing individually, Grace Vernon landed in a tie for 31st with a score of 85.
