Centre men win first ever SAA Indoor Track Championship

SATURDAY RECAP

DANVILLE, Ky. –
The Centre men's track & field team made history as they won the first ever Southern Athletic Indoor Track Championship thanks to depth and a slew of great performances.
 
The Centre men accumulated 205 points to get the win over second place Berry, who finished with 162 points. Rhodes, Oglethorpe and Birmingham-Southern rounded out the rest of the top five.
 
In the triple jump, the Colonels had half of the eight scoring marks. Philippe N'Dia led the way with a mark of 43-11.5 to take second place. Nick Whitlow finished fifth in the event, followed by Wyatt Ostrander in seventh and Michael Smith in eighth.
 
Centre added 14 points in the pole vault as Logan Isaacs picked up the win with a clear of 15-9.25. Whitlow came in fifth overall after clearing 13-9.75.
 
The Colonels picked up 16 more points in the mile. Reeve VanDemark took second place in the race after crossing the finish line in 4:25.73. Carter Russell (4:30.06) and Will Lovell (4:31.29) took a respective fifth and seventh place in the tightly contested event. In the 5k, Lovell led the way for Centre with a time of 8:56.92 to take fifth place, followed immediately by Luke Napier in sixth at 8:57.70. The 800m saw Carter Russell set a new school record with a time of 1:56.91 to finish second, with Noah George taking fourth and VanDemark finishing seventh.
 
Another high point event for the Centre men was the 400m. Gray Rahbany set a new school record with a time of 49.32 to come in second place. Jackson Heim finished third with a time of 50.38, followed by Jeremy Olliges in fourth at 52.03 and Corbin Ison in seventh at 52.80.
 
In the 60m it was Olliges who led the way for Centre, finishing fourth in 7.09. David Almona finished fifth in 7.10, followed by George Ferree in eighth with a time of 7.27. The 200m was even better for the Centre men as Olliges took second place with a time of 22.70, with Heim (22.85), Rahbany (22.97) and Almona finishing immediately behind him to give the Colonels four of the top five places in the event.
 
Ten more points came in the 60m hurdles as three Colonels cracked the scoring column. Justin Lewis posted a time of 8.92 to finish fourth overall, with Ison and George Ferree coming in a respective seventh and eighth place.
 
The men's shot put saw Tyler Vaughn place seventh overall with a throw of 41-11.25.
 
The final event of the day was the 4x400m relay and the team of Olliges, Heim, Ison and Rahbany capped off a memorable afternoon with a first place time of 3:28.83 to knock off Rhodes by just under half a second and set another new school record in the process.
 
FRIDAY RECAP

DANVILLE, Ky. –
The Centre men's track & field team ended the opening day of the inaugural Southern Athletic Association Indoor Championships in first place after a handful of scored events.
 
One new school record was added for the Colonels during the Friday session as Michael Smith won the high jump with a mark of 6-4.75, tying the program high mark set by Chrys Jones in 2008 and Elijah Scott in 2016. In total, the Colonels had four men in the scoring column in the high jump. Nick Whitlow finished second with a mark of 6-3.5, while Hunter Foster finished sixth and Philippe N'Dia finished seventh in the event.
 
The high jump saw Whitlow take second place for the second time in the session with a mark of 22-7.75. Christian Billiter took third place with a mark of 22-5.25, with George Ferree finishing seventh with a jump of 20-6.5.
 
The lone throwing event of the day was the weight throw and Centre had two crack the scoring column, as Terique Murphy-Adams finished fifth with a mark of 42-0, with Xavier Hayden finishing right behind him at 41-10.
 
In the men's 5k, Will Lovell took second place overall with a time of 15:34.90. Luke Napier made a strong late charge to take third place in the race with a time of 15:39.09.
 
The men's distance medley relay team of Carter Russell, Corbin Ison, Luke Watkins and Reeve VanDemark took fourth place with a combined time of 10:26.94 to set a new school record.
