DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre baseball opened play in another conference series as they hosted the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels in Saturday doubleheader action. The Colonels came away with the split, losing 6-5 in the first game before bouncing back with a 6-3 win in game 2.
Game 1: Oglethorpe 6, Centre 5
- The Petrels got off to a fast start, scoring runs in each of the first three innings to take a quick 4-0 lead.
- The Colonels cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third. Singles by
Jamie Laframboise and
Josh Cunningham put runners on the corners.
Ben Prather then lined a base hit off the pitcher's leg to score the first Centre run of the day. An RBI groundout from
Evan Weyler drove in Cunningham to make it a 4-2 game.

Ayden Lohr led off the fourth by ripping a double down the left field line, eventually scoring on a passed ball to cut the Oglethorpe lead to 4-3.
- In the fourth, Laframboise helped manufacture another run for the Colonels. He led off with a walk, eventually found his way onto third and scored following a sacrifice fly from Prather that tied the score.
- Centre took the lead in the fifth as Lohr led off going the other way with a double down the line, scoring after another sac fly from the Colonels, this time by
Conner Jackson.
- The Petrels rallied with a run in the seventh to tie the game and another in the eighth to take the lead. Centre put the tying run on in each of the final two innings, but failed to advance the runner as Oglethorpe got the win.
Game 2: Centre 6, Oglethorpe 3
- Cunningham got the Centre offense started with a base hit up the middle on his first at-bat. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and eventually scored on an RBI groundout from Weyler.
- Centre staged a two-out rally to get another run in the second.
Aaron Lopez walked and consecutive singles by Jackson and Laframboise made it a 2-0 lead for the Colonels.
- In the third, Weyler led off with a triple off the big wall in left field. A sac fly by Lohr made it 3-0.
Michael Lynch smacked an opposite field base hit, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a blooper from Lopez to make it 4-0.
- Oglethorpe rallied to narrow the gap in the fourth, scoring three runs on four hits and a hit by pitch.
- Centre added to the lead in the sixth as Jackson singled, followed by an RBI double into the gap by Laframboise. With runners on the corners, a sacrifice fly by Prather made it 6-3.
- Prather allowed a double in the top of the seventh, but got a strikeout for the 27th out of the game and Centre's 17th win of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORES
- Laframboise finished with three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs across both games.
- Centre pitchers struck out 22 Oglethorpe batters in the doubleheader, 11 in each game.
- Prather went the distance for Centre in game 2, striking out 11 in seven innings to get his fifth win of the season.
