Colonels rally for thrilling 13-10 win against Hanover

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre baseball team welcomed the Hanover Panthers to Gary Wright Field at Fishman Park for a Tuesday night non-conference matchup. Hits, runs and errors came in bunches for both teams, but the Colonels wound up on the winning side of a wild one by the score of 13-10.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- The Colonels staged a two-out rally to get a couple of runs in the first inning. With Ben Prather on second, Josh Cunningham lifted a blooper to the opposite field to drive in Prather. Chase Austin then went the other way with a double off the wall and the speedy Cunningham raced home to give Centre a 2-0 lead.
- Hanover took the lead in the second with a four-run inning, including a three-run homer. The Colonels answered in the second as Karson Thompson walked and stole second. Evan Weyler then lined a base hit up the middle that went past the centerfielder and all the way to the wall, easily scoring Thompson and allowing Weyler to cross the plate as well.
- Over the next two innings, Hanover used the long ball to pull ahead, scoring six unanswered runs to take a 10-4 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Prather worked a two-out walk and advanced to third on an error. Michael Lynch then walked and an errant pickoff throw allowed him to advance and Prather to score to make it 10-5. Cunningham kept the run going with a towering fly ball over the big wall in left field to narrow the gap to 10-7.
- The scoring continued for Centre in the bottom of the fifth. Jamie Laframboise reached on an error and Weyler was hit by a pitch, paving the way for Lynch to blast an opposite field shot over the fence to tie the score at 10-10.
- More clutch hits followed for the Colonels in the seventh. With two outs and Thompson on second, Prather smacked a base hit the other way to put Centre on top for the first time since the first inning. The next batter was Lynch, who belted one over the right field wall to drive in two more runs and make it a 13-10 Centre lead.
- Jack Gerber pitched a scoreless final two innings to lock down a six-out save.
