DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre men's track and field team competed in the first of two meets inside the friendly confines of Andy Frye Stadium, as they pulled away to a big victory in the Centre Invitational.
Starting with the 10k, the Colonels got 18 points in the race as
Ike Synnestvedt took first place with a time of 34:16.46, followed closely by
Luke Napier in second at 34:24.12. The men's 3000m steeplechase saw
Preston Dickerson take second place with a time of 10:27.19. In the 1500m,
Reeve VanDemark led the Centre men with a time of 4:01.98, followed by
Will Lovell in fifth and
Carter Russell in sixth in a tightly contested race. VanDemark also had the fastest Centre time in the 800m, finishing sixth in 1:58.56, with Russell in eighth place. In the 5k, Lue Payne took fourth place after crossing the finish line in 17:21.45.
In the hurdles,
Justin Lewis took first place in the 110m, finishing with a time of 15.56.
Corbin Ison (16.46) and
Erik Backstrom (18.47) finished a respective third and fifth to give the Centre men 20 points in the event. The 400m hurdles saw
Dirk Gambrel take second place with a time of 55.52, with Lewis finishing sixth overall with a time of 58.75.
The sprints were also good races for the Colonels on the men's side. In the 100m,
David Almona won with a time of 10.91, with
Gray Rahbany finishing sixth. Centre had a 1-2-3 finish in the 200m, with
Jeremy Olliges winning with a time of 21.74, followed by Almona in second,
Jackson Heim in third and Rahbany in eighth. The 400m saw Olliges take second place overall with a time of 51.74. In the 4x400m relay, the team of Olliges, Heim, Ison and Rahbany finished third overall with a combined time of 3:28.49.
In throws,
Tyler Vaughn took seventh place in the shot put with a mark of 40-8.5.
Finally, more points came Centre's way in the jumping events. The long jump saw
Christian Billiter take fourth place overall with a mark of 21-8.75, with
Nick Whitlow finishing in fifth and
George Ferree in eighth. In the triple jump,
Philippe N'Dia got the win as he posted a mark of 43-9.25.
Wyatt Ostrander took fourth place in the event with a mark of 40-6.5. Freshman Hunter foster took eighth place in the high jump with a clear of 5-10.75. The last event was the pole vault and three-time All-American
Logan Isaacs broke his previous school record by an inch as he cleared 16-3.75 to pick up the win.
Alex Hibbens finished second overall in the pole vault, with Ostrander in fourth and Ferree in sixth to give Centre 26 points for the event.

The Colonels will head to Indiana next week to compete in the Huntsman Family Invitational at Wabash.
