DANVILLE, Ky. - The top two teams in the SAA standings battled it out as the Centre baseball team hosted Hendrix in the critical final conference series of the regular season. Friday's series opener saw the Colonels pick up the win by a score of 2-1.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- In a game where hits were hard to come by on both sides, the Colonels came out swinging in the first inning.
Josh Cunningham legged out an infield hit to lead off, followed by a shot up the middle by
Ben Prather. After a successful double steal,
Evan Weyler lined a double down the left field line to plate both runners for a quick 2-0 lead.
- The Warriors finally broke the seal against Prather in the fifth inning with an RBI single, but a perfect strike from Weyler to second base on an attempted steal put an end to the Hendrix rally and kept the deficit at 2-1.
- After Hendrix scored in the fifth, that was all they could muster against Prather, who did not allow another runner to reach scoring position as
Conner Jackson snagged a line drive for the 27th out of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Prather was masterful on the mound as he picked up his league leading eighth win of the season, allowing four hits and striking out six while going the distance for the nine-inning complete game.
- Tonight's win was the 27th of the season for the Colonels, breaking last season's record for the most wins in a regular season by a Centre baseball team.
