Centre men finish fifth at SAA Championships

DICKSON, Tenn.- Centre men's golf returned to action in the final round of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Conference Championship. After the completion of 54-holes, the Colonels finished in fifth overall with a team score of 882 (283-302-297). 
 
Oglethorpe took first with a team score of 861. Sewanee followed with a combined mark of 870 while Berry and Rhodes tied for third with a final score of 877.
 
Sophomore Harrison Akers paced Centre throughout all three days, co-medaling after tying for first overall. The Tennessee native finished his third round five over par, allowing for a final score of 215 (67-71-77). At the conclusion of the tournament, Akers ranked first overall on the par-3 leaderboard, averaging 2.58 a round. 
 
Joshua Peters bettered his second round with a 76 in round three. Finishing with a final mark of 223 (68-79-76), the junior claimed a share of the 18th seed.
 
Jiles Wyatt shot no worse than a bogey in his final set of 18-holes. The junior improved from a 78 in round two to a 75 in day three, permitting a final mark of 227 (74-78-75). Wyatt finished in a tie for the 24th seed. 
 
Charlie Reber and Brett Cooper landed in a tie for 27th, matching each other with combined scores of 228.
 
Dylan McGrath rounded out Centre's roster. The junior finished in 43rd with a final mark of 240 (79-75-86).

SATURDAY RECAP
 On Saturday morning, the Colonels returned to the Greystone Golf Club to continue their play in the 2024 SAA Conference Championships. Registering a second-round team score of 302, the Centre men's golf team currently shares the tie for third heading into their final 18-holes.
 
Harrison Akers continued to lead the Colonels, improving to the outright number one seed within the individual rankings. Akers' consistency allowed for yet another under par round (-1), allowing for a combined score of 138 (67-71).
 
Joshua Peters remained in second within Centre's line-up. The Alabama native found trouble on hole one but bounced back with six pars and a birdie on his front nine. Heading into the final round, Peters shares the tie for ninth with a combined mark of 147 (68-79).
 
Jiles Wyatt currently sits in a tie for 25th after putting together a day two score of 78.
 
Dylan McGrath and Charlie Reber share the tie for 32nd, each Colonel posting a combined mark of 154 after round two. 
 
Rounding out the Colonels' roster, Brett Cooper resides in the tie for 41st with an updated score of 156 (78-78).
 
FRIDAY RECAP
On Friday morning, the Centre men's golf team initiated their play in the 2024 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Conference Championships. Leading the field as a team, the Colonels rest in first overall with a first-round score of 283. 
 
The Gold & White rank first as a team in both total par-3s and total birdies. 
 
Harrison Akers paced Centre. The sophomore currently shares a tie for first after shooting five under par in round one. Collecting an appreciable seven birdies in his opening 18-holes, the Tennessee native ranks first individually for that respective statistic.
 
Shooting no worse than a bogey on any hole, Joshua Peters put together an opening score of 68. Finishing four under par in round one, the junior currently owns the third seed outright. 
 
Charlie Reber and Jiles Wyatt share the tie for 16th after matching one another with 74s in their initial rounds.
 
Finishing out Centre's line up, Brett Cooper shares the tie for 34th with a score of 78 while Dylan McGrath rests in a tie for 38th with an opening mark of 79.
