BEREA, Ky. – The no. 9 nationally ranked Centre women's track & field team had another strong performance as they competed in the Landon Bond Classic at Berea College. Highlights included several event wins and yet another new school record.
The record that fell today for the Centre women was a fresh one, as the team of
Amari Robinson,
Jasmine Claunch,
Chloe Hein and
Madjo Doumbia broke their previous school record from last week's home meet in the 4x100m relay, clocking in at 48.31 to top last week's performance by 0.07 seconds.
In the sprints, Doumbia took first place in the 100m with a time of 12.22, and then finished second in the 200m with a time of 25.32. In the 400m it was Aisley Wilson who led the Centre women, finishing third overall in 59.39.
The hurdles saw
Janea Bottinelli posted the fastest time for the Colonels in each event. The junior hurdler won the 400m with a time of 1:05.55 and took fourth place in the 110m in 16.91.
The Colonels picked up a pair of event wins in distance races.
Rachel Gaynor won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:12.48. In the 5k it was
Marissa Polio who got the win in 20:37.62. The women's 10k saw
Maddie Riley finish second overall with a time of 41:43.23. In the middle distance races,
Sophie Bouldin led the way with a pair of third place finishes, posting times of 2:23.64 in the 800m and 4:54.07 in the 1500m.
Moving onto throws,
Lauren Foutch led the Colonels in both of her events, winning the discus with a mark of 135-9 and finishing second in the hammer with a throw of 138-9.
Lillie Whitaker-Greer paced the Colonels in the javelin with a mark of 86-1, while
Lindsey Browning finished sixth overall in the shot put with a throw of 35-1.
The Centre women also had three event wins in the jumps. Reigning SAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Shelby Smith took first place in the triple jump with a mark of 36-5.5. In the long jump, Claunch took first place with a mark of 17-6.75. In the high jump it was
Serena McNeilly who led the way as she cleared 5-1 to get the win. Finally, in the pole vault, Jessia Peterson finished fifth overall after clearing 6-6.745.
