WHITEWATER, Wisc. - The Centre baseball team made its first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon, losing to California Lutheran in the opening round double elimination pod by a score of 7-0.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- CLU got off to a hot start as the Kingsmen hit early and often, scoring a run in each of the first two innings.
- The Colonels made their first threat in the bottom of the second following consecutive two-out walks to
Jamie Laframboise and
Karson Thompson, but Centre couldn't get any of the runners across.
- California Lutheran kept up the pressure on offense, scoring another run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to go up 5-0.
- In the seventh, the Colonels loaded the bases with two outs as
Ayden Lohr smacked a base hit up the middle, Laframboise walked and Thompson reached on an error, but once again failed to drive in a run.
- After a CLU leadoff homer made it 6-0 in the eighth, Centre again threatened with two outs in the bottom of the inning as
Evan Weyler walked and
Michael Lynch went the other way with a double down the line, but the Kingsmen put a stop to the rally after a pitching change and added another insurance run in the ninth to cap off the scoring.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Today's game marked the first time all season that the Colonels were held without a run, and Centre's four hits were their lowest total in a game this year.
- Lynch's double down the left field line in the bottom of the eighth was Centre's only extra-base hit of the day.
