Colonels take third at Joe and Lee Duncan Invitational

Memphis, Tenn.- On Tuesday evening, the Gold & White completed their play in the Joe and Lee Duncan Invitational. Due to weather, the tournament was adapted to a 36-hole competition. After their two rounds, Centre women's golf secured third place with a final team score of 604 (310-294). 
 
Mississippi held firm in first place with a team mark of 579 while Rhodes took second with a combined score of 593.
 
Janie Morgan made an 11 seed jump up the leaderboard between her two rounds. Scratching her first round in the 60s with the Colonels, the junior claimed a piece of fifth place with a combined score of 145 (76-69).
 
Anika Rana also made a double figure jump up the leaderboard, landing in a tie for tenth. The senior scratched the Colonels' only Eagle of the invite on hole five, assisting to her final score of 150 (78-72). 
 
Emily Warner matched her first-round score with another 76 in day two. Finishing with a combined mark of 152 (76-76), the senior landed in a tie for 18th
 
Rounding out Centre's roster, Ellie Roof tied for 24th with a score of 158 (80-78) while Grace Vernon claimed a share of 29th place with a final mark of 159 (82-77).
 
MONDAY RECAP
On Monday morning, the Centre women's golf team teed off in the 2024 Joe and Lee Duncan Invitational. Facing just one round in their initial day, the Colonels rest in fifth with a team score of 310. 
 
Mississippi College currently holds first place with a score of 285 followed by Rhodes in second with a combined mark of 292. Piedmont College rounds out the top three with team a score of 300.
 
Emily Warner and Janie Morgan led Centre through round one. The two Colonels landed in a tie for 16th with matching marks of 76.
 
Anika Rana finished her 18-holes with a first-round score of 78. The senior tallied 11 pars and a birdie to slot her in a tie for 24th.
 
Shooting no worse than a bogey on any hole, Ellie Roof scratched an 80 in her opening round, placing her in a tie for 35th.
 
Rounding out the Colonels, Grace Vernon made her collegiate debut, landing in the top 50. With a final first round mark of 82, the rookie rests in a tie for 44th.

Centre women's golf will travel to Wisconsin on Sept. 22 to compete in the UWW Women's Invitational.
