Walker tops field as Centre finishes first at UWW Women's Invitational

WHITEWATER, Wis.- The No.15 Centre women's golf team returned to the TPC Wisconsin golf course to round out their play in the UWW Women's Invitational. The Colonels entered round two in second place and after bettering their day one score of 307 with a 304 in round two, the Gold & White solidified a first-place finish with a team mark of 611. 
 
The next closest contenders sat 17 strokes behind the Gold & White. Randolph-Macon and Illinois Wesleyan shared the second seed with matching team scores of 628.
 
Grace Walker continued to pace the invitational as the overall top performer. Holding firm in first place through both rounds, the senior closed her play with a complete score of 145 (72-73). Walker's first place individual slotting was the first for the Colonels this season. 
 
Janie Morgan and Anika Rana mirrored one another with final marks of 152. Rana made a 14 seed jump up the leaderboard as Morgan skipped up two slots, both finishing in a tie for fourth.
 
Closing out the Colonels' line-up, Emily Warner and Ellie Roof both shaved four strokes off between their two rounds of play. Warner claimed a share of the 34th seed with a complete score of 162 while Roof landed in a tie for 38th with a combined mark of 164.
 
SUNDAY RECAP
On Sunday afternoon, the Colonels opened their play in the UWW Women's Invitational, hosted by Head Coach Knudsen's alma mater, the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. Facing 18-holes in day one, Centre women's golf rests in second place with an opening team score of 307.
 
Christopher Newport sits in first with a combined mark of 303 while Randolph-Macon currently resides in third with a team score of 310. 
 
Grace Walker led the tournament through round one, landing in first place overall after her opening 18-holes. Tallying 13 pars and a pair of birdies, Walker was the closest student-athlete to even par, finishing just one over with a first-round score of 72.
 
Janie Morgan fell second within Centre's line-up with an opening score of 75. The junior balanced out her back nine with a trio of birdies on the front to place her in sixth outright ahead of round two. 
 
Anika Rana was the final Colonel to crack the top 20 leaderboard. Shooting no worse than a bogey on any hole, the senior rests in a tie for 14th with a mark of 77.
 
Rounding out the Gold & White, Emily Warner settled into a tie for 43rd with an opening score of 83 while Ellie Roof rests in a tie for 50th with a first-round mark of 84.

UP NEXT
The Gold & White will take a three week rest before returning to action in the GolfWeek October Classic on Oct. 12th.
